To vie for the clinical data manager position, one is expected to have at least a bachelor's degree in a scientific field or its equivalent. Normally, at least five years of experience as a data manager in a medically related institution is required. Great command in database systems if of course obligatory since the jobs revolves around the management of information systems. Working knowledge in medical conditions, codes, medications, and other medical jargons is of course crucial for the job. Being a managerial position, independence in work is expected as well as leadership skills. Effective communication skills both oral and written are also expected.

With all these great responsibilities, one would expect a sizable income. Indeed the compensation is quite substantial. Clinical data managers may earn as much as $250,000 a year. But more than the money is the great challenge that this interesting job can bring.
